Shop and Yard Assistant | Forklift Experience

At ShearForce Equipment, we sell and rent hydraulic attachments for excavators, backhoes, and skid steers in our state-of-the-industry shop in the Gloucester Industrial Park in the Aldergrove area of Langley, BC. We are currently searching for a Shop & Yard Assistant who would be responsible for equipment preparation, shipping and receiving of equipment and parts, and for the overall organization and cleanliness of our site. This opportunity may be for you if you take pride in ensuring a clean, organized, and safe work environment for yourself and your coworkers. A positive can-do attitude and desire to learn goes a long way when it comes to working collaboratively with our team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated person looking to gain exposure to growing subtrades including Heavy Equipment Technician, Millwright, and Welding in a fast-paced and supportive shop environment. Responsibilities:

  • Preparing equipment for sales and rentals.
  • Cleaning/Inspection/documenting of equipment on rental returns.
  • Unload and receive equipment from incoming containers.
  • Perform daily pre-use inspection of forklifts and the overhead crane.
  • Receive incoming daily parts in a timely fashion and inspect for damage/deficiencies.
  • Assist mechanics and welders in the shop when requested.
  • Assist with the movement of equipment to and from subtrades shops and picking up and dropping off parts or components to local suppliers.
  • Assist the parts department in the pulling, packing, and shipping of parts.
  • Organization, daily clean up, and safety of the ShearForce yard and warehouse area, as per 6S practices.
  • Help identify and implement improvement projects to increase efficiency in all aspects of materials handling and warehouse organization.
  • Nightly lockup – Responsible for all end-of-day lock-up of all shop doors, vehicles, propane cage, waste bin cage, and compounds, including securing all trucks and the yard. Ensure that the forklift is charged.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience using a 5000+ lb. forklift. Forklift training provided. *Not required but would be regarded as an asset*
  • Ability to work safely in a team environment.
  • High attention to detail with pride in expedient service.
  • Ability to work quickly within tight schedules and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Class 5 or 7 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs safely.

This position is full-time and permanent and starts ASAP. Work hours Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm with opportunities for overtime.

Heavy-Duty Mechanic

ShearForce Equipment and Work Truck West are on the hunt for a Heavy-Duty Mechanic at our Airdrie, Alberta Location!

As a Heavy-Duty Mechanic for ShearForce, you would be responsible for the installation, service, maintenance, and repair of hydraulic excavator attachments including hydraulic hammers, compactors, demolition tools, and associated equipment such as excavators, backhoes, skid steers, hydraulic tools. A major component of this type of work includes hydraulic plumbing and the installation of auxiliary hydraulic circuits on excavators and other earthmoving equipment.

As a Service Technician for Work Truck West, you would be responsible for the service, maintenance, and repair of truck-mounted equipment including hydraulic and engine-driven compressors, hydraulic equipment and controls, truck-mounted stiff boom, and articulating cranes.

This opportunity may be perfect for you if you can see yourself taking on new challenges in this unique and specialized focus area of heavy-duty mechanics. This position will operate from our shop located at 512 East Lake Rd NE Airdrie, AB with work in the field.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the products we sell through hydraulic setups, service, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Excellent customer service and communication in person, on the phone, and in email.

Requirements:

  • Heavy-Duty Mechanics Trade Certification or enrollment in an apprenticeship program.
  • Experience in a heavy-duty mechanic shop.
  • Experience with hydraulic plumbing and attachment setups is considered an asset.
  • Excellent troubleshooting/problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • A commitment to customer satisfaction with pride in good workmanship.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work quickly within tight schedules.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good computer literacy skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Experience in each of the following is considered an asset:

  • Welding skills.
  • Hydraulics and diagnostics skills pertaining to excavation equipment and attachments.
  • 12/24-volt troubleshooting.
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge and experience with hydraulic compressors and engine-driven compressors, hydraulic equipment, and controls.
  • Knowledge and experience with small engine repair (Diesel and Gas)

This position is full-time and permanent and starts ASAP. Work hours Monday to Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm with opportunities for overtime.
